Description |
Mahogany and cherry desk made between 1810 and 1820. It most closely resembles a Country Chippendale-style slant top desk, which was popular in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Parts of the desk have been restored or altered. This desk was willed to Rose Hulman from Fred Mewhinney, who resided in Virginia until his recent death in 2009. Fred Mewhinney's father and grandfather both attended Rose, and Chauncey Rose gave this desk to Fred's grandfather. |
