Description |
Handmade paper and acrylic paint on wood. Inspired by a Mid-XVI Century Russian lconostasis, the ICONS are also primitive, bold and historic. Addressing the viewer they create a universal mandala. Just as the original inspiration is a portable lconostasis these ICONS can be hung anywhere in the world. Since these ICONS are portable their curatorship is site specific. Each ICON is made of handmade paper by the artist, and is where papermaking, working on paper and painting come together on wood. The wood is also used for the extended painted image and reflects the use of a historic medium. |
