Still Life by Xiaowen Chen. Collograph: A photomechanical printing process with an extremely fine grain. Ground glass is coated with bichromated gelatin, the surface of which is reticulated by hot air drying.Exposure under a continuous tone negative causes selective tanning of gelatin. After washing and treating with glycerin the surface becomes selectively hygroscopic and greasy ink adheres most readily to the areas containing least water. The resulting continuous tone image is then printed on paper. Print, 10/12. |
